My interest lies in creating unique and captivating records whilst capturing the energy of a performance. My role as a recording engineer will involve setting up and placing microphones, recording and mixing your record, advising you when your ideas are having a positive or negative effect on the song, and endeavouring to get the best performances out of you, individually and as a unit.
I learned to record and mix as a result of visiting
recording studios with my bands, experimenting with tape-deck stereos, 4-tracks, 8-tracks, minidisc recorders, notepad mixers and anything else I could get my hands on. People heard my recordings and I started getting requests to record other bands. Eventually I began running my own studio and working at others in my local area, developing my skills through practical experience and learning from well-respected engineers of various generations.
I am also an active and touring musician, currently playing guitar with post-hardcore band Jairus, blues band The Black Waterside, and acoustic bass/vocals with Jazz/Flamenco trio Tener Duende – I also have been a touring guitarist with Oklahoma based instrumental band Unwed Sailor on their 2007 USA Winter tour and 2008 European Winter tour, and British garage band The Higher State on their German tour in 2010. I believe that being a musician and/or having a vast understanding of music helps a lot with the recording process.
